The Anti-imperialist, Anti-war Internationalist Meeting that took place in Panteion University in Athens and in Kallithea on the weekend 22 and 23 February 2025 was a very important and mass process. Previously, CPG(m-l) had worked intensively to spread the call to this initiative, which it considers as an important contribution to the so much needed anti-imperialist, anti-war movement, as well as to the promotion of the coordination of organizations from various countries of the world. Apart from the considerable number of people that participated, representatives of organizations and forces from various countries attended the meeting.
The events begun on Saturday morning, with a militant demonstration in Kallithea, where protestors from Greece and the foreign representatives started from Davaki square, walked the central Venizelou avenue and “colored” the neighborhood with anti-imperialist and anti-war slogans against the unjust war of the USA-NATO-Russia in Ukraine and for Free Palestine, from the river to the sea. The interest of the people who filled the neighborhood was evident.
Afterwards, the internationalist event entitled “Which contradictions shake the world and cause wars? What is the way for the reconstruction of the revolutionary communist movement and the struggle of the peoples?”, took place in a hall full of people in Panteion University.
The welcome by c. Tassos Bairaktaris, on behalf of CPG(m-l), was followed by the speech of c. Nikos Papavassiliou, on behalf of the Central Organ of CPG(m-l), who presented in 8 points the positions of the Organization. Afterwards, a video was shown with the salute of the Revolutionary Students’ Front in India. Speeches by the representatives of foreign organizations and parties followed:
Often the hall was shaken by slogans, particularly during the speech of the Palestinian militant Yehya Asker, from the Palestinian Community of Thessaloniki.
Subsequently, salutes from organizations and forces that were not able to attend were read: Revolutionary Communist League from Norway, Revolutionary Front for the Support of Peoples’ Rights from Brazil and Popular Current “Red Sun” from Mexico. There was also a salute from the Anti-imperialist League and another from the International Coordination of Solidarity to People’s War in India, which was read by the representative from Italy. The event was completed with short speeches by all organizations and the final speech on behalf of the Central Organ of CPG(m-l) by c. Nikos Papavassiliou.
The event was characterized by politically very interesting, given the views and that were expressed, all of which, despite the particularities and the differences identified in a few issues, converge to standing against all imperialist “protectors” (USA-NATO-EU-China), to the need for the development of the anti-imperialist, anti-war movement and to the coordination between forces from different areas of the world on this basis. An important achievement was the Joint Statement of the meeting (here in Spanish), by CPG(m-l) and foreign organizations that attended and the agreement on the creation of a web page with the title International Anti-imperialist Bulletin.
Saturday’s events closed with a live music concert attended by a lot of people.
Sunday’s schedule started with the event entitled “Ukraine, Middle East, reactionary rivalry between the Greek and the Turkish bourgeoisie. Our neighborhood encircled by the flames of war. We won’t become cannon fodder for the wars of the imperialists”, with the participation of Greek Organizations.
Com. Stratos Katsenis welcomed on behalf of CPG(m-l) and then the speech of c. Antonis Apostolakis, on behalf of the Central Organ of CPG(m-l) followed.
Afterwards, representatives of the Greek organizations took the stand:
A salute was presented by Antonia Vafiadou, on behalf of Revolutionary Communist Movement of Greece.
In addition, an announcement of CPG(m-l) calling to mass participation to the general strike of February 28th, against the government’s efforts to terrorize the people, was read.
In his final statement, on behalf of CPG(m-l), c. Antonis Apostolakis referred, among others, to the negative fact of the inability of the organizations of the left in Greece to achieve common action and take initiative for the anti-war, anti-imperialist front, which is needed by the people, despite the different views that were expressed in this event as well.
Finally, c. Nikos Papavassiliou made a short reference to the Joint Statement with foreign organizations, which was read in Greek and in English.
The event was completed with the “International” anthem.
The event was followed by the theatrical monologue by Nicoletta Panagiotou about heroic Palestine, Seven Jewish Children – A play for Gaza, by Caryl Churchil.
In parallel to the events there was a photography exhibition and a stand of the bookstore “Ektos Ton Teixon”, promoting the English edition of the book “The peoples will not stand idle in front of the preparation of the next World War”, which was recently published.
This great meeting was an important event for the movement and the people and an important step to the political formation needed to prevent the worse developments for our people and all the peoples of the world, prepared by their tyrants, ruling classes, governments and imperialists.
This is a formation which is still at its very beginning and still has a lot of steps to walk.
